16th September, 2025

News Room

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has temporarily shifted its operations to Keshar Mahal after its building at Singha Durbar was damaged during the recent “Gen-Z” group protest.

Secretary Chudamani Poudel confirmed that official documents are safe, though vehicles in the basement were destroyed by fire. The upper floors were vandalized but not burned. Online services, including foreign study permits, continue to function.

Keshar Mahal currently houses the Keshar Library and the Public Procurement and Monitoring Office. Both offices will be compressed to make space for the ministry. The building was damaged in the 2015 earthquake but later renovated. The ministry was originally based at Keshar Mahal before moving to Singha Durbar.

A team led by Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal inspected the damaged premises on Friday.
